“Cairo wasn’t my birthplace, nor the city where I grew up. Yet after nearly a decade of photographing its streets, I’ve developed an unexpected connection to its soul. Through my camera lens, I’ve learned to slow down, and discover the hidden layers that make Cairo truly unique. It’s an overwhelming city—intense, fast, and ever-changing—but photography has taught me to appreciate the moments of quiet beauty and resilience that define its spirit.
This series reflects my journey of discovery, focusing on the culture and identity of a city with countless layers and a rich, complex history. Cairo’s streets tell the story of a city in flux, where ancient alleyways, traditional coffee houses and local tradespeople exist alongside modern highways and towering skyscrapers. These photographs attempt to document the vibrant street life capturing both the daily rhythms and the striking contrast between the old and new.”
